What is my climate impact...?

Your climate impact is the effect on the planet of your life activities. This can include

  • how your food is produced and reaches your table,
  • how your clothing and other goods were manufactured and transported,
  • your water consumption,
  • your gas and electricity consumption,
  • your vehicle emissions and
  • your travel.

At Mia Bazo, we focus on three of these factors: utility consumption, vehicle emissions and travel. We calculate the amount of carbon dioxide (and other greenhouse gases that have a negative impact on the environment) your activities emit. This is how we arrive at your carbon footprint.

From this, we subtract your carbon offset activities, which cancel out those emissions. We call the result your carbon balance or climate balance.

...and why should I care?

According to the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, “It is unequivocal that human influence has warmed the atmosphere, ocean and land.”

The report continues, “Human-induced climate change is already affecting many weather and climate extremes in every region across the globe. Evidence of observed changes in extremes such as heatwaves, heavy precipitation, droughts, and tropical cyclones, and, in particular, their attribution to human influence, has strengthened since the Fifth Assessment Report.”

Carbon dioxide emissions (and those of other greenhouse gases) are the primary cause of global warming.

At Mia Bazo, we believe that individuals and businesses can not wait for government mandates to decrease emissions of CO2. We have to do it ourselves.

Many other companies agree. Many already require their suppliers to prove how they are managing their sustainability. As more and more businesses strive to implement Environmental Social Governance, unless you can demonstrate sustainability, the number of businesses willing to trade with you will decrease.

There is also a movement within the insurance industry toward a policy of either not insuring companies that aren’t mitigating their CO2 emissions, or making it prohibitively expensive.

The IPCC further stated that “Many changes due to past and future greenhouse gas emissions are irreversible for centuries to millennia, especially changes in the ocean, ice sheets and global sea level.”

We should all follow the campsite rule: Let’s leave this place better than we found it.

The Mia Bazo Climate Impact service allows you to

calculate and offset the carbon footprint of your vehicles, properties, and any form of travel: automobile, bus, rail, air, cruise and hotel accommodation.

You can make your carbon balance public on our website, or on yours, through our widgets or API.

You can purchase carbon offset directly through Mia Bazo, or purchase it elsewhere and enter that information into the calculator manually.

Beginning January 2022, you will be able to access carbon reduction recommendations, such as which scheduled flights are the most fuel efficient, or which taxi services in your destination use zero-emission vehicles.
